BH. Up close with the New Combat Medic

Note the snake on a pole pin which comes from a time in the Torah when
Hashem commanded such a symbol be made to prevent further spread of a
plague. American medical groups use it as well, quite often.

BH. Bus Patrol

This gentleman has the job of checking to make sure that everyone paid
to get on the bus. Since the busses have two doors, some people enter
from the back door and waive a bus pass. Checks and Balances.

BH. Toilets in Israel that save water

Bottom line is that they have two switches. One is for regular, the
other is for "heavy duty."

BH. Adult Bulk Trip Bus Pass

This pass costs 49.60 NIS and entitles me to ten trips. It would have
been 62.00 NIS if I paid for each trip separately. Thus a savings of
13 NIS which is about $3.50 for buying in bulk. Each time you give the
bus driver your pass he punches a hole in it. If you expect to need to
catch another bus, not just your return trip, within an hour and 15
minutes, you can ask the driver for a free transfer. You give said
transfer to the new bus driver and you don't have to pay again. There
are adult and children bulk passes and an unlimited monthly pass, as
well.

BH. Leumit Healthcare Passes First Test

Yesterday a particular member of my family needed to see a doctor,
specifically a ENT. We had never used our healthcare insurance or even
called them before yesterday. I called the representative who signed
us up at the Nefesh B'Nefesh vendor fair. He told me where to go to
get help, which was just around the corner from where we
live...walking distance. At the center, the family member seen and
then was given an appointment 15 minutes later at a specialist down
the street. The specialist charged 20 shekels which is about 5
dollars. The prescriptions were printed there on the doctor's
computer.
We got 7 prescriptions filled at a local pharmacy that was open until
7pm. The prescriptions totaled 70 shekels (NIS) which us about 20
dollars. Our contact with Leumit us Amit Fix. He spoke with the
initial clinic and make it happen. 0526000258. Yasher Koach Amit

B"H Friends Their Kids and Bikes

This past weekend we had the privilege of hosting Avi Orlan's daughter (He's my friend and chevrusa from Boca) and her friend for Shabbas.  Avi is interested in making Aliyah with his family, as well.  Until he makes it here, he has tuition bills in America.  In order to pay said bills he has pledged (without oath) to bike 6000 miles.  See his site First Giving  Making Aliyah is challenging, so please consider sponsoring him with a couple of sheckels, and assiting him in his noble cause.

BH. Soldiers come in many shapes and styles

BH. Learn from your brother

BH. Lots of cats...but I haven't seen a rat

Legend has it that the British brought over cats to Israel in the 30's
to get rid of the rats. The cats clearly won. The Talmud teaches that
even if we hadn't (G-d forbid) learned modesty from the Torah, we
could have learned it from cats.
